To complete our action under the target set for BASC in the Cheshire LBAP which is to Monitor and survey suitable ponds for lesser silver water beetle (Hydrochara caraboides) on BASC members land. A series of surveys (with the help of a local aquatic invertebrate expert from Cheshire Wildlife Trust) has been carried out on ponds since 2007 in order to study the presence of lesser silver water beetle and to identify new suitable ponds for the species. Firstly, the ponds were indentified with the aid of Ordonance Survey maps, a Geographic Information System (GIS), and Google Earth satellite images of the members land, where it was though the species may occur.
