To survey areas of Cheshire using the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) grey partridge (Perdix perdix) counting scheme and to encourage BASC members to enhance the geographical range of the species throughout the county by 2010. In the 2007 survey, 19 members were identified as having grey partridge on their land or the land over which they shot. Since 2008 spring and autumn grey partridge counts have been undertaken (using the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trusts-GWCT) on BASC members? shoots across Cheshire to establish the whereabouts of wild populations of the species. After having positive results, the shoot syndicate now has a part-time gamekeeper who will be carrying out a strict regime of predator control on the shoot making a concerted effort towards reducing predation of grey partridge chicks by corvids and foxes. During 2011, the officer will still have an active role in promoting the Grey Partridge Counting Scheme to BASC members in Cheshire.
