In collaboration with Slovenský poľovnícky zväz, a comprehensive 74-page educational workbook has been developed for children involved in Young Friends of Nature and Hunting Groups (KMPPP). The workbook covers a wide range of subjects taught throughout the school year, including zoology, nature conservation, cynology, Slovak hunting signals, plant and tree identification, herbs, hunting trophies, and even weapon safety.

The workbook is enriched with engaging illustrations by Mikuláš Sikorjak, drawing from materials like Traces of the Beast and Hunting Equipment. Its interactive design includes tasks, quizzes, and learning activities aimed at deepening children’s knowledge about wildlife, ecosystems, and sustainable hunting practices. With 2,000 copies printed, the workbooks will be distributed to all registered KMPPP groups, with additional copies available for newly registered managers upon request.

This project underscores the value of combining education with outdoor learning experiences, helping children develop environmental awareness while fostering a connection to nature and wildlife conservation.

EU Policy Relevance

The initiative supports the EU’s Green Deal and Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, which emphasize nature education and environmental literacy. Early education programs like this align with the EU’s goal of reconnecting people with nature and ensuring that future generations understand the importance of biodiversity, habitat conservation, and responsible land management. By teaching children about nature through interactive materials, the project also complements the EU’s Environmental Action Programme (EAP), which calls for increased awareness of sustainability and environmental protection through education.

Through engaging educational programs and creating educational literature, the Slovak hunters set an example of how local efforts can support EU-wide goals, nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious citizens ready to safeguard Europe’s natural heritage.
