The “Green purge” project is a joint action to clean up illegal landfills in the environment and the largest environmental volunteer project in Croatia. Hunters from Zadar County Hunting Association have been participating in this campaign since 2016.
Each year, on the occasion of the celebration of World Earth Day on April 22nd, a broad and thorough campaign of cleaning, remediation and disposal of bulky waste from numerous illegal landfills is carried out in hunting grounds in Zadar County. Illegal dumping of waste is a real threat to a clean and healthy environment.
This ecological action is organised and carried on by the Zadar County Hunting Association and its members, as well as other hunting associations operating in Zadar County. The project is supported by the local government (responsible cities and municipalities), which provide logistical support, such as a municipal waste disposal company. Of course, the greatest effort in this project is provided by hunters from the hunting associations operating in the Zadar County, who respond in large numbers to the call every year. Hunters in their hunting management activities take great care of their hunting grounds, so that they remain healthy and filled with wildlife, ensuring hunting remains sustainable. The motto of the project is that hunting and nature conservation go hand in hand and cannot thrive without each other.
The “Green purge” is part of the global Let’s do it! movement and the annual World Cleanup, which brings together active citizens and organizations in the largest volunteer project in human history. Every year, 3 to 5 ton of waste are collected through this campaign in Croatia.
This action in the hunting grounds of Zadar County will continue in the future.
