The University of Reims has requested the collaboration of the Hunters Federation of Ardennes to carry out the “Corridors” research programme, which aims to identify the natural connections that link the territories of Champagne-Ardenne and allow the genetic mixing of animal populations.

The species chosen is the deer because of its ease of movement, the distances covered and its distribution in the Ardennes and in the Marne.

The objective is to identify the connections between forest areas. Genetics should provide information on “family” relationships between populations and satellite monitoring will locate pathways. This study will only be possible with the active participation of local hunting societies.

Country: France
Region:
Grand-Est
Species: Red Deer (Cervus Elaphus)
Species characteristics: Mammals
Type of actions: Management of habitats and wildlife
Leading partners: Fédération départementale des chasseurs des Ardennes, University of Reims
