To collect accurate bag data in Denmark The national scheme collecting hunt statistics in Denmark is run by the Danish Governments National Environmental Research Institute (NERI), using information held in the national hunting register.
Although the Danish Hunters? Association has no formal involvement it helps by motivating hunters to keep accurate personal records. The national hunt statistics scheme is compulsory and has being running since 1941.
Until recently the scheme was enforced by a system of fining or withholding of the hunting licence. Today the system is less strictly enforced, resulting in a significant loss of hunters participation. A new strategy for regulating the scheme is being worked out to strengthen its enforcement.
The collection of data is connected to the hunting licence payment system. A pre-paid card, which requests details of all birds and mammals shot in specific regions of Denmark, is sent to all registered hunters.Completed cards are returned to NERI and reported bag statistics are computerised. On-line reporting on the Internet is also an option. Hunters report the bag data and although the Danish Hunters? Association has no formal involvement it helps by motivating hunters to keep accurate personal records.
