Mark your calendars! The annual environmental cleanup event “J’aime la Nature Propre” will take place from March 14 to 16, 2025, bringing together thousands of volunteers passionate about preserving nature. Organized by the national hunting office, the event mobilizes hunters, environmental enthusiasts, and community members to clear waste from natural areas across France.

How It Works

Participants can easily sign up through the official webpage by selecting a cleanup location and registering their names. On the event day, volunteers receive essential gear, including gloves, trash bags, and a branded safety bib. Equipped and ready, they head out to collect trash from designated areas. Afterward, all waste collected is gathered into garbage bins for proper disposal.

The 2024 edition of “J’aime la Nature Propre” was a massive success, with 140,000 volunteers cleaning 3,200 locations nationwide. This impressive effort resulted in cleaner forests, rivers, beaches, and public spaces, significantly enhancing local biodiversity and promoting environmental awareness.

Partnership Opportunities

To sustain and expand this initiative, the national hunting office is actively seeking partnerships with companies, organizations, and local authorities. Partnerships provide essential support, including financial contributions, promotional visibility, and equipment donations. In return, partners gain visibility through media coverage, social media campaigns, and event-day branding opportunities.

EU Policy Relevance

“J’aime la Nature Propre” supports key environmental objectives outlined in the EU Green Deal, particularly the Zero Pollution Action Plan, which targets reducing waste and preserving the health of Europe’s ecosystems. The project also aligns with the EU Circular Economy Action Plan, emphasizing proper waste management and recycling practices. Additionally, by fostering community engagement and public environmental responsibility, the event contributes to the Environmental Action Programme (EAP), promoting societal awareness and proactive environmental stewardship.

By connecting hunters, local communities, and corporate partners, “J’aime la Nature Propre” exemplifies how collaborative grassroots initiatives can drive meaningful environmental change, advancing both national and EU-level sustainability goals.

JLNP

JLNP brings together the federal network of hunters, anglers, those involved in protecting aquatic environments and outdoor sports. Not forgetting local authorities and businesses ready to commit to protecting the environment by joining in this initiative. Together they have already collected tonnes of waste. In 2022, 8,000 m3 were collected and almost 10,000 m3 in 2023.

Furthermore, it encourages French hunters, who are already active in their own right in protecting their local territory, and in particular in keeping forests, marshes and rural areas uncontaminated, to action.

This national scheme brings together two other initiatives:

“2022 was a transitional year for handing over organisational skills to the FNC, and from 2023 onwards the “Clean Rivers” projects will be brought together with JLNP.

Cleaning Up Our Environment: J'aime la Nature Propre (JLNP) Takes Action

French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) and the JLNP

The French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) is a public body dedicated to safeguarding biodiversity in France. One of its priorities is to provide an urgent response to the challenges of preserving living things.

The OFB brings together staff from the French Biodiversity Agency (AFB) and the National Office for Hunting and Wildlife (ONCFS). Bringing these two establishments together in the fight to protect nature means that we can pool our expertise on aquatic, terrestrial and marine environments and present a united front against the threats to biodiversity in France. Bringing together these two entities, whose staff are based all over France and in the French overseas territories, also means that we can be firmly rooted in the regions and take action at a local level.

J’aime la Nature Propre is a project financed by the eco-contribution scheme. Under this scheme, every hunter who validates his or her hunting licence contributes €5, with a further €10 from the government, to fund practical actions to promote biodiversity: hedge planting, restoration of forest and wetland environments, maintenance of wildlife habitats, nature workcamps, and so on. A total of nearly €15 million a year is devoted to biodiversity thanks to the hunters’ eco-tax.

No fewer than 590 projects have been carried out since 2019 by the hunters’ federations, the OFB and their partners!
